Ghazal Karimi Sangdehi , Reza Sattari (Author in Charge)
Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: A song lyric, meaning the text of a piece of music, feeds on popular culture because it has the greatest connection with the general public and can reciprocally influence it. The breadth and scope of popular culture is such that it permeates or influences everything related to human life. Studying the stylistic developments of song lyrics alongside those of popular culture reveals the interactions between the two.The aim of this research is to investigate the effect of the two-way relationship between songwriting and popular culture on the content style of Persian song lyrics, and in the process, it also addresses the impact that the stylistic characteristics of a song lyric can have on popular culture.
METHODOLOGY: The present study was conducted using a descriptive-analytical method and library studies and resources. The scope of the study is Persian song lyrics published from the 1340s, which is the beginning of the formation of the modern song movement, to the end of the 1390 decade.
FINDINGS: Some components of popular culture, affect the content style of song lyrics; components such as beliefs and opinions, celebrations, customs and festivals, popular language, current issues, etc.By reflecting these elements, the song lyric promotes and keeps them alive. In turn, the song lyric also affects popular culture by transforming popular language and some concepts such as love, and by promoting vulgarity.
CONCLUSION: The song itself is born from the heart of popular culture and is shaped by its various developments; but through a cycle of communication, it once again affects popular culture and can even be one of the most powerful factors in the cultural developments of society. The interaction of these two things with each other is similar to a kind of supply and demand that never stops.
